Roque and Sophia

Believe it or not, Sophia dumped all things pink, and became a fan of Green Day. Phases, gotta love'em!

Who the heck is Billy Mays? .

Eleven, did you say eleven.

Sophia's getting up there, she just turned the big One-One. Here she is with her brother's rat, Bacon. Her rat, Waffle, doesn't like to appear on camera.

Enrico and Edoardo liked America, we think.

Enrico (Hank) and Edoardo (Eddie) came to visit from Italy for a few weeks, got a whirlwind tour of the southland, and took back a bunch of random memories. We hope we see them again soon.

Sandi, Orlando, Melissa, Sophia and Roque at the Lucasfilm Halloween party. Man, that year went by quickly. My old high school friends will get a kick out of my costume. Yes, it's official, we've moved to the Bay Area, where I am now gainfully imployed by Lucasfilm. I am working on various projects, none of which I am at liberty to discuss, suffice it to say, my childhood dream has come true.

Dog Days of Summer

I tell you what, that was one long summer.

It's Jacque Kay from Ventura Ay

Melissa and Serena (my sister in-law) flank cousin Jacque during a photo shoot at their aunt's house. Dee's work-in-progress family tree can be seen in the background.

Beach Bum

Once again we spent a few weeks soaking up the sea and sun in good old Carpinteria. Old Greenie (our condo) and "the world's safest beach" proved once again to be just what the Duenas Scholls needed.

The Summer of Many Miles

One things for sure, we put a lot of miles on the family wagon this summer. Luckily, thanks to 2000 Alvin and the Chipmunk's DVD's and lots of great "literature", the miles sailed by. Heres Sophia somewhere between Eugene and Tacoma.

Fireworks For Sale

Roque tries his hand at hawking fireworks just like his dear old dad used to do, only on a much smaller, and safer scale. This was taken in Eugene, where the use of fireworks don't bring the thumping rotors of an LA police helicopter. Seriously, when we got back home, we lit one piccollo pete and got buzzed, it was actually kinda cool.

I think she's a Beaug, which is a failed Puggle, which is a Pug/Beagle mix. She was rescued from a puppy mill in Arkansas, where if you are born without a squiggly tail, you are destined for an animal research facility. Nice huh?

Thar be dolphins thar!

Melissa and Sophia got up close and personal with a sea creature at SeaWorld, according to Sophia, a dolphin feels just like a hot dog. Mmm, hot dog.

Friday, October 21, 2005

And then she was Eight

Sophia's 8th Birthday, a decidedly casual affair. Sophia decided she wanted to go to SeaWorld (see post above) instead of having a big party, so we celebrated with a few of her Home School chums instead.

Storming Big Bear by sea, well, lake really

We just barely beat the cold weather on our trip up to Big Bear. Camping, hiking, and fishing, now that's what I'm talking about.

Another Summer in Carpinteria

The heart of Avocado Alley!
We need a vacation from our vaction.
Once again we stayed a block from the beach in "Old Greenie", a condo that was last decorated in 1972, its like transporting into a Brady Bunch episode.
The kids honed their Boggie Boarding skills while Melissa and I lazed away on the sand, we actually got to the point where none of us even wanted to go to the beach anymore, that's when you know its time to come home.
Roque once again refused to smile for a family photo, so I pasted in a nice picture from elsewhere, he's so cute.

2005 Gonzalez Family Reunion

NOW, TELL ME AGAIN, HOW ARE WE RELATED?
We had a great time at the Gonzalez Family Reunion in Alice, Texas (near Corpus Christi). Man, was it ever hot down there! Vincente and Benigna, my Great Grandfather and Grandmother on my Father's-Mother's side, would have been amazed to see the hundreds of relatives that showed up!

Maybe next time... Sorry Mom

Judy C. Wright for Puyallup Tribal Council!

TRIBAL ELECTIONS JUNE 4th 2005
There are two seats opening on tribal council, one of which my mother hopes to fill. She has worked tirelessly for the Puyallup Tribe of Indians for over 25 years! In fact, I remember that in the less formal organizational structure of the 60's and early 70's, both of my parents were very involved in the struggle for Native American rights. My father with AIM - The American Indian Movement, and mom, closer to home, with local organizations like, S.T.O.W.W. - Small Tribes of Western Washington, The Puget Sound Indian Dance Club, The Tacoma Indian Center and of course, The Puyallup Tribe of Indians. I remember back in 70' when our family was involved in the occupation of Fort Lawton, which later resulted in the establishment of the Daybreak Star Center in Seattle. Anyway, in the past she has served on tribal council, where she worked hard to serve the membership. In more recent years she has been working in the Tribal Archives to help make the rich history of our tribe accessible to members and to the general public. Now it is time to elect her back onto Tribal Council, her commitment to the health and prosperity of my/our tribe is immeasurable! In the comment link below is my mother's platform, please check it out, even if you're not a voting member of the tribe, she's still a super cool person!

NAB Convention

Avid User Since 1989
I am attending the NAB Convention in Vegas this week, Avid Technology has asked me to speak at their booth about our use of Avid's on THE POLAR EXPRESS. It should be fun, I go on at 11am Wednesday. Now if I can just figure out what to say...
(Wednesday PM)
Well, I spit it out at 100 mph, but most of it was understandable, the audience, about a hundred, just shook their heads in disbelief most of the time. I actually answered questions for longer than I spoke. Must now de-stress...
(Thursday AM)
Back home at last, my legs are actually sore from the non stop walking around the LV Convention center. What a wild event, there is so much stuff it would take at least a week to see it all.

Who Is This Clown?

J. P. Patches, Mayor of the City Dump
The man who introduced me to all that is good in life... Cartoons!
I was a little suprised to find so many links dedicated to J. P. on the internet, but then, I guess many of us did wake up to him every morning of our young lives.
He still makes the rounds, and is still a truely class act.

Here we are at the premiere of The Polar Express at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Trucked in snow, steaming hot chocolate and Tom Hanks, Wow! Two and a half years is a long time on one movie, but we are all very proud of the film. Check out the link to the Editor's Guild article, even I get confused.
